In a world made of fantasy , one could only dream of the powers that they wish that they could hold from the Hollywood movies they view . Behind the shallow media cover , there is a truth behind the ‘super heroes’ . Not your regular media hyped superman , but real people who appear as normal as any ordinary person . When these powers are exposed , those who obtain them are sent to Lunar Academy , the school of the real magic , the real powers .

" LIKE A CITY OF ANGELS;

I'M WALKING TOWARD THE LIGHT "

There was about as much to be expected in a town like Lunar Parkland. It was like most other places one could go to. There was the usual fast food restaurants and of course the fancy houses that are set up in a row so perfectly. It was nothing compared to the coast though, which was perfect. It wasn't always sunny, there was actually rain more often. And the rain was one of the most magnificent sights there was to be. Everything was kinda perfect here. Once he had flown to Colorado with his parents and he fell in love with the mountains. And here he was. In the mountains. It was like destiny. Though a strange occurring destiny.

Synyster looked behind his shoulder. He was slightly paranoid at the moment. The second he left the school to get groceries he felt like someone was following him. Specifically he thought it would be his sister. She had a tendency to like to follow him and flood him with questions that he had already answered. He just didn't understand her. They were completely different, but they were twins. Most of all he wished that she had never come back and found him. Maybe if she didn't, he would actually know for sure what was going back at home... not that it mattered if he was there or not... But coming to some boarding school was never what he had intended. But it wasn't just any boarding school. He kept reminding himself that. Once again he looked over his shoulders, groceries in hand. He started walking toward where the road would be back to Lunar Academy. Every moment or so he would still look over until there actually was someone standing there...

“lets just burn the night away, burn the night away. you keep me wide awake, wide awake,”

Darkness stretched out, claws grasping, desperately fighting against the light. Leaves tumbled through the dark, being claimed by its wrath. Walls towered up, high in the sky, denying the sun territory, lending a hand to the dark. Light never reached this place, it was felt in the cold of the concrete, an icy rush so intense it could be felt eve walking through the narrow walls. Perpetual gloom hung in the air, like a large storm cloud hovering over the alleyways head. Though it seemed a little dreary, a little grey, there was a malicious lure that could bring in even the warmth seeking cats. This was not the place for the sort of happy, innocent people that walked the town of Lunar Parkland with glee. It was the just the place for sinister beings, for instance, a certain person following another being, sinister only by name.

Hips swaying with a familiar ease, hands stuffed in the pockets of a sweater, her head was held at a slightly tilted angle as she squinted through the dark. Crayon red that many swore was dyed tumbled down, cascading over her shoulder, the color shocking. She was not to be seen though, safe if the haven of the ally. It was a little to chilly for her here, but she could see the sun on the other side, promised warmth. Yael clucked her tongue as again her…mark looked behind him again. Her was so paranoid, her little Syn. Feet carried her forward as he moved again, though she anticipated her twin brothers looks behind him and was able to disappear. Silly Syn thought he could catch her. She would only be seen when she wanted to be seen. As they got to the road that headed up to Lunar, Yael decided that this was the time. She placed herself in full view and stood. Syn turned around and spotted her then, and she smirked fully. Quickly, she skipped forward, humming to herself. “Hello hello Syn my brother. How have you been? Can I bum a cigarette off you? Did you enjoy shopping? What lovely weather isn’t it?” she let the words bombard him as she grabbed his shopping bag and dug through it. After a vicious search in which she thought she’d broken the eggs in the bag she came up empty handed. She pouted and pushed the bag into Syn’s hand. Then she spotted a bulge in the back pocket of his jeans. “Ah ha!’ Yael exclaimed, and reached around his body to grab the pack. Opening it she grabbed the third from the left, the one she knew she had secretly replaced one of his cigarettes with hers. She placed it between her lips, smiling briefly at her twin before lighting it with a simple flick of her fingers.

With flame-like hair, a contrast of piercing blue eyes with a conniving smirk to match there was only one person that could fit the description. "Yael..." He whispered under his breath feeling even more uncomfortable and more paranoid than he had only a moment before. Suspicions were correct. Although it wouldn't matter outside of this moment, Synyster did not like being correct. Another thing he didn't like was being called 'Syn'. He was not a violent person but hearing himself being addressed like that was getting annoying. One year. One year of putting up with the nickname. One year of putting up with extra paranoia. One year of fighting fire with icy powers of his soul. One year. The entire time that Yael had been speaking, and snooping through Synyster's self, he remained quiet. She may be around, but at least he could keep the silence to himself.

Finally she noticed the pack of cigarettes that Synyster had kept in his jeans. Most people would find it weird that a girl was digging in some boy's jeans, even if it was just to grab a pack of cigarettes, but Synyster was the type of boy that seemed oblivious to everything, though he was very conscious. He watched her effortlessly flick her fingers to light her cigarette, and then looked away as she placed his cigarettes back into his pants. Once she lifted her hands away from him, he turned back to face her. It was silent momentarily with eyes glowing into each other. Finally Synyster let his gaze drop and sighed, scratching at the back of his head. "You shouldn't do that in public," he said quietly in case anyone was listening in. At the thought of someone listening, he quickly took a look around the area. It appeared to be empty except for himself and Yael.

Unlike her twin, Yael did not value silence nor really enjoy keeping it. She wasn’t all talk, oh no, but around her brother she liked to keep up a steady stream of talk, if only to annoy and confuse him. Syn was so quiet it was easy to push their conversations this way and that. Yael was the moon to the tide of their words, it gave her so much power. As of now, she was standing with one hand on her hip and the other raised in the air ro cradle the thin cylinder of paper with a glowing end. She still had Syn’s cigarette pack. She flipped it up to read the “Health Warning” printed clearly on the outside flap, and laughed. Those things would never happen to her, she was meant to have the smoke in her, it was just part of her body. She slipped it back in her brothers pocket and continued to stare at him. His words made her smirk. “Do what Syn? Smoke you mean? I know it’s bad for your health, butI haven’t yet heard of a law that says its illegal in public. Or are you just afraid of people frowning upon me?” she laughed, shaking the cigarette in the air for emphasis. She knew this wasn’t what he was talking about, but she wanted to tease him

Then, with the cigarette again in her mouth she sighed and scratched the back of her head, mimicking Syn perfectly. “Oh, wait, are you talking about this?” she asked, lifting her arm. Her hand burst into barely visible flame and she swung it in front of Synysters face. “Ohhhh, scary eh? We could get caught by the little spy squirrels. Or is it the trees Syn, are they going to tell on us?” she laughed, shaking her head so her blazing hair swung lazily. “Syn, syn, syn, syny poo. You are oh so paranoid. Has it entered that frozen brain of yours that normal people can do nothing against us? If a normal took a step toward me all it would take is one vroom boom” she stopped to demonstrate her words by summoning a ball of flame in her fingers and flicking it harmlessly down, where it landed with a sizzle close to Syns foot. “And they would be gone, zippo,” she continued, resting her weight on one leg as she looked at his face . “Aren’t you going to have one brother?” she asked innocently, taking in a deep breath and directing the jet of smoke right at Synysters face.

Typical Synyster kept his place as if he was frozen to the ground. Although "he was ice" he felt a burning inside of him, almost like a frost bite taking hold of him. The sarcasm, the ignorance that his sister portrayed was one of the most annoying things that he had ever witnessed in his life. He could not even harbor the thoughts of being able to act or do as Yael did and does. There was not much that captured the attention of Synyster unless it was the great beauty of something... amazing. But for some reason Yael always had his attention. It was like he needed to Freeze his eyes on her every movement like a body guard. But like a body guard that wanted to hit her over the head with a blunt object just to make her shut up.

He was hesitant, but once he looked over his shoulder and around the rest of him, he decided it would be safe to say something. "People around here don't know about us, we need to keep it a secret, whether there was a restriction on powers or not." He looked on at her blankly but inside of him was flustered and slowly cracking knuckles with anger. It was annoying how on top of everything, Yael had to be completely calm about it. He knew she would probably be the one to expose them all and put them in danger. She was so careless with her powers. If she chose to kill someone with her powers she would expose them all for sure, especially if that person somehow made it through. "Thats the stupidest idea you have ever thought of," Synyster looked at her and couldn't help but turn away, for once not because he was paranoid. For a moment he set his hand on his face, stretching it because he felt so uncomfortable. Finally he decided to face his sister again where she began to offer him a smoke. He just shook his head and looked down at the ground. At least it was spring and almost summer, because if it had been winter, Synyster would have had a lot of explaining why there was a strip of melted snow, where Yael would have stepped.

Like always, Yael had a plan in mind. She watched her twin brother closely, noting the emotions flash over his face, even seeing the things that boiled underneath his skin. Having a twin was like having a second brain, one that you couldn’t quiet reach, but knew so much about. Her plan was so simple she was surprised she hadn’t thought about it earlier. Her earlier plots to get her brother on her side had never worked. He was to much of a ‘good’ person, he would never hurt anyone just to see them squirm. He didn’t understand his potential. Yael knew though, as his complete opposite, he hated her. Well, not hate, but she knew she infuriated him. She stood for everything he stood against. It was strange, that her twin brother disliked her, but it was fun as well, she liked angering him. Having him angry was a lot more fun then him being all happy and them being alll….twin like. Gross

Inhaling, Yael looked a like one of those old movies where there was always a person smoking and leaning against something. She felt old sometimes, with a cigarette between her lips, like she belonged in a black and white movie. She watched Syn in silence for a few minutes, flipping the cigarette around her fingers, drawing out the tension between them. She so enjoyed toying with her brother. “Why though, have you ever thought about that Syn? Why do we have to keep it a secret? There is no threat to us. Humans are at the top of the food chain, and we, the ones with powers, are on top of those normal people. We rule Syn, nothing can stop us,” she said, her voice slow, turning back to that slight American accent she had, just a hint of a drawl around the edges of her voice. She hated talking like that, it was so mundane and…American. But she knew it would annoy Syn as well. She looked at him and pouted again. “It’s not stuupid Syyn, you know you agreeee,” she said, her voice whiny. She had an urge to grab his wrist and press the end of her cigarette into his skin, to see if that would provoke her brother any.

There were many movies or television shows that used a reference of twin telepathy. Twins somehow understood each other, how they were feeling, why they felt that way, and the best way of making them feel better. Even when they had a polar effect they were supposed to get along in some way or another. Its a good thing the media portrayed things about as correct as the American government. Which was not at all. Or else Lunar Academy would have been found out a long time ago. That and maybe Synyster would actually try to emphasize with his sister. If that had happened, the world would no longer he in existence. Synyster really did not understand why his sister seemed so obsessed with the idea of doing something with their powers. Something destructive and overwhelming. This was getting annoying. Synyster rolled his eyes, and with his mouth covered slightly by his mouth he spoke, "There already is a stop to us, considering it is more like you; i have no involvement with your scheming."

There was a slight change in the wind. It went against Synyster sending his hair flying slightly. When he felt the air up in his face he couldn't help but look around him. There was a sense growing inside of him that there actually was someone around. A moment before he was almost sure that himself and his sister were alone, but now with just the wind change everything seemed a lot more... dangerous. "murder is unacceptable" Synyster said slightly to himself. It was more of a statement since his eyes were darting around the surroundings. He was not even focusing on Yael anymore, but rather trying to find a wire or a camera somewhere that might be set up watching them. He felt like an animal in a cage. Him being an antelope and Yael being the lion.

The wind buffeted the unlikely pair, standing there in a world of their own. The smoke curled up form the cigarette held delicately between Yaels fingers, creating a strange vision, if you were to look at her from the back. You would see her red flaming hair, smoke curling up from the locks, like her head was actually on fire. She watched her twin with slight boredom, lifting her arm to investigate a scar. She picked at it with a nail, reveling the healing skin underneath it and causing blood to bubble up. “Blood-siblings’ they were called, and how much more blood related could you get, being twins. Syn and her shared the same blood, literally. It was a creepy feeling. Yael placed the cut to her lips, tasting the iron of the blood before lowering her wrist. She looked at Syn and crossed her eyes, though he was hardly paying attention. Paranoid paranoid Syn.

Who said you were so important anyways? You obviously are not the villain in this scenario, Syn. Nor will I let you illusion yourself into some kind of hero. You have nothing against me, I don’t need you. Fire burns ice, oh wonderful brother of mine,” she retorted, grimacing at him. How was she related to this sack of potatoes? “You don’t even realize how powerful I am,” she spoke softly, before reaching up to tuck the still lit cigarette behind her ear. Then she reached foreword and grabbed both of Syns wrists roughly. She held them up in the air and breathed out the smoke she had been holding in as water droplets started to fall from their connected arms. She was feeling pain, a burning cold searing her flesh, worse then heat, but she ignored it, knowing Syn was in pain as well. She let her hands heat up, watching his face as it contorted. Syn needed to learn to stand up for himself.

Synyster was barely even noting and sarcastic gestures that Yael would create before him. He was getting more scared that someone was going to approach them. With the luck of his life, someone most likely would and everything would fall to pieces. But when Yael continued on about herself Synyster had to fight an urge to hit her. It was a rare thing that he would get, but when his sister was around it was a feeling that occurred to him a-plenty. "And ice douses fire," Synyster said quietly, holding a meaningful look into Yael's eyes. It was the first time in a while he looked directly into Yael. It was actually like the cliche went, where he could see into her burning, crippling soul. "I think you are a little too narcissistic, sis" For once, a little bit of sass came out of Synyster's mouth. He quickly had to quiet down. When he realized how brutal he sounded compared to his usual self, he felt off center. He hated the way that Yael made him. It just wasn't him. He was an art freak. He was lovely and content with life, but Yael just set fire to anything that Synyster had once had of himself.

Surprise expanded across Synyster's Ora once Yael grabbed at him. The heat was ridiculous, and yet it was freezing. It was a frost bite. The worst sensation that Synyster had come across. His face grew distorted from the pain. It was difficult to get a hold of himself. He closed his eyes briskly feeling a tear form in his eyes from the smoke. Once the tear fell, it instantly turned to ice, then broke on Yael's hand. Synyster wanted to scream, he wanted to do something to make the pain stop; more or less make his sister stop. "Yael..." he managed to get out in restricted words, finally he released himself, sending a strip of ice from his palms crash into Yael. "Fuck Off!" He said as Yael stumbled a bit backwards. A burning feeling still was met at his wrists, and when Synyster looked down at them, he noticed how his skin looked bubbled. A normal person would need to go to the hospital, but Synyster did not take it into much consideration. Once again, he looked up at Yael. That bitch.

The fire that was on Yaels hands intensified, turning blue, as she stumbled away from her brother. Cold surrounded her palms, burning into her skin. There wasn’t fire there, just a small yellow flame licking around the corners, drawing away from the cold whenever it touched. Fucking bastard. Fucking goddamn son of a bitch bastard. The cold hurt, so much. The pain made her want to break down and cry. something Yael was not prone to, ever. Nothing made her want to cry. She did not cry. He was so done for. She looked up at Syn, scooping her hair out of her face, hearing a sizzle as a few pieces charred from the heat. The fire from her hands never hurt her, unless she was so filled with emotion it spilled past the top. Syn always was to mellow, that was what Yael hated so much about him. While her spirit burned with the intensity of the flames flickering higher up her arms, reaching for her shoulders, his seemed to freeze with the ice.

The flames were reaching higher, her eyes seemed to be glowing, whether it was from the fire or her anger, no one would know. She stepped toward Syn again, the ice strip melted already. “You little fucker. You think that you are so important, you think you can just throw me around? You are nothing on me bro. Understand? All you are is a whiny little baby that doesn’t want to do anything because hes to goddamn special to get revenger at the people who have been suppressing you to conform to their twisted little world” she paused, grabbing Syns arms, the fire exploding upwards at the painful contact. She shoved him hard against a tree, baring her teeth in his face before continuing.. Everyone else has been fucking hiding from you you’re true purpose Syn. And all you do is sit around like a little fucking pansy. That’s all anyone is doing! They don’t understand. You are just a low life little sheep willing to wait until you are taken away and sheared and cut up to perfection to be just like everyone else Syn!” She was shouting at him by the end, her voice gravely and the fire having consumed most of her upper torso. Then, she noticed something. The fire was not catching to her or her brother, just harming him because of the intense heat. But the tree behind him. It was on fire, she could see past her arms, the bark was crackling and turning black. Yael gasped, and tugged herself and Syn away from the tree, the flames around her dieing instantly. For a moment, just a moment, she worried about Synyster. The first thought that raced across her mind was “Is he okay?”. Then, fire leapt up across her arms again, like nothing had happened. “Look what you made me do!” she shouted, then spun Syn around and shoved him toward the tree, the trunk of which was burning at a fast rate.

There always had to be something going on with Yael and Synyster. There was a fight, a fire or some frost bites going around. Usually when fire and ice clashed together there was a whole lot of rain. But right now was starting to get completely out of control. Synyster was flabbergasted once the fire had started. He always had a distinct fear of burning to death, mostly because of Yael. As the fire started around the trees Synyster felt himself slowly freezing, like his power had stuck him there. There was so much pain, and the fire wasn't even on him, just the burning in his back. There was even water, that could have been mistaken as sweat that was collecting into his shirt. He closed his eyes, petrified. It was not even the biggest fire, but it was still a fire and there was still a hazard.

It was the most shocking thing that Synyster had even been a witness, let alone victim to and that was Yael helping him. He felt intensity on his arm, as Yael yanked him away from the danger of the fire. The Yael that he know would have left him to burn and said, "at least i don't have to deal with you anymore," or something corny like "you just got burned!" but instead she actually helped him. Synyster was slightly lost for words, but once he started to bring the words "thank you" to his lips, Yael started yelling at him again. Then, whoosh. He felt Yael push him, and the wind in his ears as he felt to wards the burning tree. He felt a crash and his back not only was burning but cracked against the burning bark. Synyster felt blank, like he was rendering unconscious but he knew that he would not be that lucky. He heard the tree falling, and immediately started to crawl out from where he was, but he was moving very slowly. "Yael! You Bitch!" Synyster called out. Before the tree landed on him, he made a slow, yet quick movement, turning his body where he could ice the tree. Water went everywhere like a new form of explosion. Although the tree was not burning it still landed, and Synyster received a deathly pain in his legs.

The world started to move in slow motion, to Yaels eyes at least. Noise ceased, like a movie, and all she could hear was the harsh thudding of her heart. The fire disappeared form around her ass he watched her brother fly back and hit the tree. The sound of impact hit her ears. Synyster moved away from the tree, but Yael could see it falling, the charred bark giving way under the pressure of fire and impact. She barely heard his words as the tree fell. She watched Synyster try and stop it, water shooting from the tree, the fire dying quickly. The tree still fell, creaking, groaning like some ghostly spirit. Synysters body seemed to be moving to slow compared to the tree. It landed with a thud, its branches clattering together like bones, a sigh of wind floating over Yael. The chaos of before, the flames and the water, the falling tree, all stopped with that one single moment, and silence descended upon the scene. It was the type of silence uncommon to the forest. No birds, no crickets, not even the sound of the wind rustling the leaves. Yael stood, her fire red hair hanging around her head, staring at the tree. From her vantage point, the tree had swallowed her twin brother.

A sudden burning at Yaels ear made her jump. She screeched, hitting at her ear, and the cigarette butt she had placed there fell down to the ground, almost all burned out. This sudden jolt to her system got Yael moving, her brain at least. She didn’t know what happened to Syn. Her body immediately moved backward from the tree, her feet preparing to run, fast. But something kept her there, like a tether pulled tight. Her blue eyes, such a tranquil color for such a fiery individual, stuck to the place where Synyster had been standing. Her twin brother…her own flesh and blood. Yael always said she didn’t care about him, she treated him like she didn’t care, hell, she was convinced she didn’t care and hated him. He had tried to kill her, had almost succeeded. She was not meant to care for him. Her feet were moving her foreword though, towards the tree, to where she could see Synysters body. He appeared to be breathing, and conscious, but in horrible pain. She stepped foreword, until her feet were with the branches of the tree, looking down at him. “Synynster?” her voice was soft, unsure. Yael bent over slightly, her hair dangling in front of Synysters face. It was the first time she’d actually said his proper name, in her entire life. She didn’t know what to do, she didn’t think she could move the tree herself. She wanted to help though. Such a strange feeling, to want to help, it felt almost wrong.

Some people could live a live time without breaking a bone in their body. Others seemed to find themselves spraining their ankle, or their arm over and over again. There wasn't much to say about it, whether it was just luck or not, or maybe it was the strength in the bones. But there was no way that if a tree fell on someones legs, that they could be less than broken. Synyster could feel this for sure. Never had he actually broken something in his body, he was lucky for that. But now he felt all his body heat shift into the pain of where the tree had fallen on his legs. He felt cold and dry, and did not want to move at all. Synyster was unsure that if the tree was moved if he would feel relief or if he would just feel even more so of an intense pain. Feeling so broken felt so ugly. Synyster felt this ugliness just from being under that scorched tree. As Yael bent down, Synyster felt even more ugly. He did not need anyone watch him, especially Yael. Synyster felt the heat raising back into his body, but this heat was not concentrated pain but instead was concentrated anger. Synyster tried tilting his head more so he could get a better look at his sister. And that face of hers completely engulfed him.

"If I could move right now, I would probably slap you," Synyster said matter-of-factly even through gritting teeth and a coughing breath. Slowly Synyster lifted an arm forward, trying to pull himself, but the pain just came back like an elastic. He groaned loudly and almost started to let out a sob, but he couldn't'. There was no way he would allow himself to sob in front of his sister, especially not now. "Yael," Synyster started to say feeling week. He wanted to say something calm-like such as, "get help," or "pull me out," but he felt too much pain to be nice. He needed to take it out somehow so he found himself almost screeching at his sister. "Do something!" After he had yelled he somewhat just collapsed where he was trying to concentrate on breathing for a while, although it seemed the more he focused on breathing, they harder it was to breathe.
